Cassville Senior Beta Club Pickleball Clinic
he Cassville Senior Beta Club recently hosted a youth pickleball clinic for grades 4-8. Senior Beta Club members and staff worked together to provide an hour and a half of introductory pickleball instruction to 20 youth participants.
The USA Pickleball curriculum provided an excellent opportunity for children to learn the basics of the game. Held at the Cassville High School gymnasium, the clinic attracted students from the Cassville area, eager to get their first taste of formal pickleball training. The program is designed to be fun and engaging, ensuring that young participants not only learn the essential skills but also to develop a love for the game.
The clinic kicked off with a brief introduction of the fundamentals and objectives of pickleball. Dr. Johnson, who is also a certified PPR Level 1 Coach, and the Senior Beta Club members demonstrated and explained how pickleball is played on a badminton-size court with a slightly modified tennis net, using paddles and a perforated plastic ball. They highlighted the key elements of the game, such as serving, receiving, dinking, and ensuring that even those completely new to the sport could follow along.
Students participated in a series of fun stations and games, focusing on varying pickleball skills. The instructors emphasized the importance of proper grip and stance, offering tips to improve accuracy and consistency.
To wrap up the clinic, all participants came together for some friendly games, putting their newly acquired skills to the test. These mini-matches were structured to be non-competitive, focusing on teamwork and enjoyment. There were small prizes for students who won during the competitions.
The proceeds from the camp will be used to help pay for expenses incurred by the Senior Beta Club members who qualified to compete at the National Beta Convention in Savannah, Georgia in June.
